Spotlight Blogger: Handpicked By Kate

Kate works directly with a unique collection of high quality brands which delivers a range of exquisite homeware pieces and beautiful gifts edits for anyone looking for the finer things in life. Her store has a very personal touch as all items on the website are either items Kate has in her own home or is true to her own style. Kate produces some brilliant gift guides for her readers through the year with a range of products perfect for any occasion.

We had the opportunity to ask Kate some questions about her online store and blog.

- What sparked you to start 'Handpicked By Kate'?

Handpicked by Kate started life as a simple little black book full of my favourite homeware, fashion and accessories brands that I fill my house and wardrobe with. After having countless friends and family members ask me for advice when it came to gift giving or interior decorating, I decided to create a platform to share all of these amazing discoveries with as many people as possible. Everything on Handpicked by Kate is either something I own myself or is on my to-buy list! There is nothing on the site that I wouldn't have in my own home and it is very true to my personal style.

- What do you look for in a brand for them to feature on your online store?

I love to learn more about the person behind the brand, how their products are created and what makes them unique. I would never feature anything on the site which I wouldn’t want in my own home so anything which catches my eye and is a little different will be sure to feature on the site.

- Who is your biggest inspiration for fashion?

When it comes to amazing craftsmanship then Alice Temperley’s pieces are magical. I love that she grew up in Somerset and that her designs are a true reflection of British elegance and romance. I wore one of her dresses on my wedding day and it is my most treasured item. Her ‘ Somerset’ collection for John Lewis is also an accessible and relaxed version of her style.

- What has been your greatest hurdle in the creation and development of Handpicked By Kate? And how have you stayed motivated as a result?

In my opinion the greatest hurdle for all online retailers is driving traffic to the site. Offering customers an excellent service and something different is what keeps you unique and ensures return customers. Receiving wonderful feedback from happy customers keeps me motivated and the reason for doing what I do!

- Where do you see your store in 5 years time?

I have quite a few ideas for Handpicked by Kate and where I want it to be in 5 years time. To name a few… I would love to create my own collection, collaborate with a brand I admire, launch a wedding list feature, and more imminently a styling service. 

- What is still your biggest challenge?

To remember the bigger picture or long-term plan, rather than getting bogged down in the day-to-day. Whilst getting the details right is essential, it’s important to step back to see what you have achieved.

- What would you say your personal style is and which one of our belts would match that?

I would say my personal style is quite relaxed and varied. You will either find me dressed in jeans, supergas and a slogan sweatshirt or perhaps a belted maxi dress in the summer. It’s hard to choose but my favourite of the pampeano belts is the Polo Belt Estancia or the Polo Belt Hermoso.
